What does a Web site tester need to know?

You will need knowledge of the basics of programming, the HTTP protocol, the ability to work with databases and version control systems, at least a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS. The tester should know how to work with the command line, know browsers and developer tools.

What is the essence of the testing process?

Testing is the verification of compliance of the results of the software product for compliance with the specified criteria. Testers are involved in testing the entire product or individual components. Testing plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of a product.
